Business Meerkat – Update 1

Hello there! Welcome to the first Business Meerkat update.

Sign up for the Pilot Programme here.

Hopefully, these updates will give some insight into the process I’m going through, give nudges when I need some help and input, and then help build some excitement as I get towards production.

If you don’t want to get them, just let me know, and I’ll take you off the list.

New interactive version

Some of the newer signups to the pilot group have got this already but sharing now with everyone… https://mattballantine.static.domains/businessmeerkat

This is a product of my getting my head around using GPT to write code in the last few weeks, and it’s useful because it has allowed me to automatically generate specific deal layouts for using the cards. Tweaks, enhancements and prettying it up are ongoing. Feature enhancement suggestions are most welcomed! Details for collecting those are below.

It runs on mobile, but you really need the big screen to play around with it properly.

Instructions are in the slide deck linked at the top of the page.

Applying Meerkat to Business Models

The new interactive tool, plus a conversation with Deckible guru Nick Kellet this week, made me realise that the Meerkat cards might be useful when applied to more common business and business analysis frameworks. I’ve been having a play with things like SWOT, 7-S and Porter’s Five Forces, and I think there’s something in it. More to come at the Show & Tell sessions (see below)…

Bloody printers

I had this bright idea to use pre-perforated cards on A4 sheets. Print them out. Put them in the post.

Let’s just say you learn by doing, and I’ve learned that that was a daft idea.

Suffice it to say, I’ve sent off to a real printers and will be dispatching the next lot of physical cards at the end of next week.

Show and tells

I will schedule a few sessions over the next few weeks. The format will be the same (I’ll run through the cards structure, and then a few deal layouts, with volunteers being the subject for the “readings”). I’ll send out meeting invites – don’t worry about saying “no” to them, as I don’t expect everyone at every session! Please accept the ones you want to go to, though, as I’ll only run those with the chance of some attendees. They’ll be scheduled in the middle of the day and early evenings.

Feedback

There’s a form here: https://forms.gle/7iGGBuWsB39GKc9x6

With it, you can…

  • Suggest new cards
  • Suggest new features for the interactive tool
  • Make other general observations

I’m currently targeting the end of March to go for a print run.

Love to hear what you are making of the cards so far!

That’s it for now. Please get in touch if none of this is making any sense!

Cheers, Matt
