Business Meerkat – Update 3

Hello there! Welcome to the third Business Meerkat update.

Hopefully, these updates will give some insight into the process I’m going through, give nudges when I need some help and input, and then help build some excitement as I get towards production.

If you don’t want to get them, just let me know, and I’ll take you off the list.

Experiments in Packaging

A few experiments ran this week on how to package the cards – I think I’m settled on a two-piece box (prototype photo above c/o Lisl). I also experimented with a single-piece traditional playing card carton and a “casket” design, but I don’t think either really hit the mark.

Five new cards

There are five new additions to the deck –

It seems a shame not to include “Death”, as it’s so synonymous with Tarot and can also provide many points of interpretation about the end of things. So it’s in the deck.

The Parent and Child cards came about from a suggestion from Paula who is a psychologist, and as I having recently been working in an organisation where parent/child relationships dominated, it’s again a nice point of interpretation for users of the cards.

Finally, the Thief and the Gatekeeper came from Jeff, who operates in the cybersecurity world. Whilst you can see direct links there, it’s also possible to imagine a wealth of other ways these two cards could spark ideas.

Feedback, please!

I’m looking for three types of feedback –

  • cards that don’t make any sense. Let me know!
  • ideas for new cards. We are getting close to the last call on this.
  • other feedback – experiences of using the cards, games you have played, games that you think might work and so on.

That last one is “basically anything else”.

You can provide your wonderful insights and reflections here:

Feedback really welcomed because…

Pre-orders go live soon!

I’ll let you all know, and as people who have volunteered your help in the piloting stage, you’ll all get a discount on the final cards should you wish to purchase them.

Final stages of production are now… finishing up the precise layouts for the final format of the cards (70x120mm tarot-sized), and also finishing up the box design. And then submitting them off to the printers for checking.

That’s it for now. Please get in touch if none of this is making any sense!

Cheers, Matt
